Members of Stanway Rovers Football Club, and our guests, said "Cheers to 2024 - and welcome to 2025" at our very popular "New Year's Eve Disco and Party".
Once again, our annual event was a sell-out, as members and guests gathered together to see out the old year and welcome in the new year in the traditional way - with eating, drinking, dancing and singing.
2024 was a year of lows and highs for Stanway Rovers:
we started the year gathering together in March to say our fondest goodbyes and to pay respect to our lifelong friend and club stalwart, Peter Cracknell, who sadly passed away in February - see this post
we finished the 2023-2024 season on several "highs", with our:
First Team:
becoming "Double Cup Winners", winning both the Errington Cup and the Peter Butcher Memorial Cup in May
Walking Football:
Our Saturday Walking Team finished the walking season as winners of Division 4 of the Over 50's Saturday Essex League. They were undefeated, finishing the 15 match season with 33 points, collected from 9 wins, 6 draws and no losses.
An identical story for our Sunday Walking A Team, as they finished the walking season as winners of the North Essex Friendly Alliance League. They were also undefeated, finishing their 18 match season with 42 points, collected from 12 wins, 6 draws and no losses.
we ended 2024 with both our First Team and our U18 Team sitting at the top of their respective leagues, both with an outstanding unbeaten run of matches
First Team
a run of 21 unbeaten league matches, consisting of:
16 wins and five draws
53 points from 22 matches and a GD of +33
Our First Team play in the Essex Senior Football League
U18 Team
a run of ten unbeaten league matches, consisting of:
9 wins and one draw
28 points from 10 matches and a GD of +52
Our U18 team play in the South Division of the Thurlow Nunn Youth Football League
With all this behind us in 2024, a terrific atmosphere started to build hours before the official start time of the New Year's Eve Disco and Party:
members and their guests were gathering
drinks were being consumed
banter was flowing
Barry the bar man was in a good mood
Then, at 8pm, the lights were lowered, the disco volume was raised, and the party began.
Mirth and merriment, music and midnight were all part of our evening, culminating in Auld Lang Syne, handshakes, hugs and kisses.
Happy New Year to everyone from Stanway Rovers Football Club. If you are a member then you already know the exiting football we play and the fun social life we have. If you're not a member, come along, try us out, enjoy the football and our social activities, including quizzes, raffles and cabaret nights.
