All 4 of the goals scored for our reserves were by u18 players: Evie Hall who captained the u16's scored her first senior goal on her debut! Freya Hatch scored a brace, dribbling past three players before chipping the ball over the Old Chemsfordian keeper for her first. Her second was a spinning sweep of the ball that rolled the ball past both centre halves and the goalie. A fantastic finish that required vision and creativity from such a young player. Last but not least Chloe Khan, also with her senior debut, scored her first goal in adult football. When training sessions for Rovers girls started (all those years ago) we only had a handful of players coming along. Chloe was one of them. It was a great moment to see her make her debut and get on the scoresheet! Walking Football: Our Saturday Walking Team finished the walking season as winners of Division 4 of the Over 50's Saturday Essex League. They were undefeated, finishing the 15 match season with 33 points, collected from 9 wins, 6 draws and no losses. Their nearest rivals were Bexley Whites, who finished the season in 2nd place on 25 points. An identical story for our Sunday Walking A Team, as they finished the walking season as winners of the North Essex Friendly Alliance League . They were also undefeated, finishing their 18 match season with 42 points, collected from 12 wins, 6 draws and no losses. Their nearest rivals were Brightlingsea Regent Whites , who finished the season in 2nd place on 33 points. Not such a good story for our Sunday Walking B Team, as they finished the walking season at the bottom of the North Essex Friendly Alliance League . They finished their 18 match season with 3 points, collected from zero wins, 3 draws and 15 losses. Congratulations to our two Champion teams, and better luck next season to our Sunday B team. This is a comment from Essy Eslamian, Chairman, Stanway Rovers Walking Teams After a season of very tough fixtures, we won the Essex League on Saturday and followed that up on Sunday when we also won the Colchester league. Our winning teams in both leagues were unbeaten this season. It has been a great journey since the beginning of this year when we joined Stanway Rovers. We have achieved so much and thank you to everyone and their support. See our Walking Football pages, here, for all results, fixtures and the final tables. - CONGRATULATIONS TO SAMMIE SZMODICS
Obviously we here at Stanway Rovers Football Club are very passionate about our Stanway heritage, and although Sammie Szmodics never played for Stanway Rovers Football Club, he came from Stanway, his parents still live in Stanway (and are regular attendees at our club) and it is always fantastic to see Stanway footballers succeed in football. So everyone here at Stanway Rovers are very pleased to send our congratulations to Sammie for his transfer to Ipswich Town Football Club, and for making his English Premier League debut for Ipswich against Liverpool on Saturday 17th September. We wish Sammie continued success in his domestic football career, and also in his international career with Republic of Ireland. The following has been copied from Wikipedia: Samuel Joseph Szmodics (born 24 September 1995) is a professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or forward for Premier League club Ipswich Town and the Republic of Ireland national team. An academy product of hometown club Colchester United, he made his professional debut in 2013, going on to score 38 goals in 162 appearances for the club before departing in 2019. After a brief spell at Bristol City, he spent two years at Peterborough United before joining Blackburn Rovers in 2022, where he became a key player, finishing as the top scorer in the 2023–24 EFL Championship. Szmodics made his Republic of Ireland debut in a friendly against Belgium in March 2024. The full Wikipedia entry can be found by following this link. Due to copyright ownership, we are unable to publish a picture of Sammie, but there is a Getty Images picture of him in this article on the BBC Sports pages, which was published on 15th August, two days before Sammie's Ipswich Town and English Premier League debut on Saturday 17th September. With no picture of Sammie available to us, we have highlighted this article with Ipswich Town's logo. An element of the BBC Sports article has been repeated her: Szmodics scored 33 goals in all competitions in the 2023-24 season - for a career-best haul - and his contribution was key to keeping Blackburn in the Championship. He publicly said earlier this year he wanted to play in the top flight and now the chance should come. The 28-year-old has three goals in two games this season after scoring in the 4-2 win over Derby before grabbing a double in the 6-1 Carabao Cup victory against Stockport on Tuesday. A move to Suffolk also moves the Republic of Ireland international closer to home, having been born in Colchester. The full BBC Sports article can be found by following this link.
